9th International Penguin Congress

The 9th International Penguin Congress will be held Cape Town from 5th to 9th September 2016.

The International Penguin Congress provides a forum for all concerned with Penguins to create a strategic global effort on behalf of these threatened species. The International Penguin Congress is the primary gathering of the world’s leading scientists, research managers and policy makers working on penguin biology, ecology, health and behaviour to discuss ongoing research, identify current and emerging conservation issues and create action plans. The congress provides a unique opportunity to bring together disparate groups of people with a common interest in penguins; the connections they make have often proved most fruitful and led to some exciting collaborations. In 2016 the ninth meeting (IPC9) will take place in Cape Town (September 5 – 9 2016) - the second time South Africa has hosted the event. The meeting which lasts for 5 days (Monday to Friday) attracts around 200 delegates. It is one of the few meetings which attracts people working on all 7 continents.

The main venue will be the Avenue a new conference venue in the vibrant Waterfront area of Cape Town, next door to the Two Oceans Aquarium.

The congress will start with an ice breaker on Sunday 4th September; the scientific sessions will begin on the morning of Monday 5th September. As well as short oral presentations there will be separate timetabled poster sessions and social events where delegates can mix and discuss matters of mutual interest. We also intend to include some specialist workshops.

In addition to the scientific programme there will be several social events including a congress dinner.
