9th International Penguin Congress
Cape Town, South Africa
5th - 9th September 2016
Things to do
A few ideas of things to do include:
  • September is the start of Whale season – Southern Right whales can be seen in Table Bay and False Bay, but the very best sightings are usually at Hermanus where the whales often come right up to the shore line. If you visit Hermanus the Whale Crier will keep you informed of whale sightings with his horn.
  • For keen birders there are plenty of good spots – the Cape Bird Club is a good source of information about what to see and where to go.
  • Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are quite spectacular and well worth a full day visit (you won’t be able to see everything in a single day!)
  • Some of the finest wineries anywhere are to be found within an hour’s drive of Cape Town – follow the wine route to get a good taste of what is available
  • There are some truly excellent restaurants in and around Cape Town. The Test Kitchen in Woodstock is credited with being the best in Africa and is rated in the top 50 restaurants in the world. But there are lots more excellent places to eat.
